Cllr Ernie Welch
Ernie Welch1)2) is Winsford's current King Mayor. First elected as an unaligned independent in the in March 2022 by-election, and subsequently as part of WSotE (WTC), he has achieved more by giving away free meals in his pub, than as an actual town councillor.
“The real” Dave Edwards3), who failed to get elected for WSotE (WTC) says Ernie is the leader of WSotE, not that nasty Mr Boone, and so that's that.
Boone was immediately voted onto the community and planning committees, but since then has missed nearly every meeting.
Ernie was a prominent critic of the previous (Labour) council's budget for Christmas lights, yet it seems unlikely that he will deliver on his promise to get them more cheaply!4)
His previously proposed solution for the Winsford Town Centre Toilet Problem was Portaloos that would be cleaned once a week. Given how stinky that would have been, it was unsurprising that the previous (Labour) Council voted against it, for the smell and several other reasons.
Now that he is mayor, rather than advance his plans, he has gone into reverse, and is now badgering Cllr Nathan Pardoe (who has posted on this matter 5)) for a meeting about more permanent toilets, even though he has no idea how the WSotE town council will fund them.
Following his catastrophic attempts to chair his first couple of council meetings, Cllr Welch has become markedly less keen to answer questions that scrutinise WSotE policies, choosing instead to defer to the town clerk for answers.
